Always ask a contractor for a copy of their license and insurance before hiring them. So many people are taken advantage of these days because of the economy. The lowest price is not necessarily the best price. 1. Make sure you have a copy of a license or their license number. You can look up license information on this website http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/ 2. Insurance up to date? All contractors must carry liability and workers comp insurance. Their insurance company can provide a copy for any customer a contractor was hired to do work for. 3. If a contractor is worker’s comp EXEMPT ***BEWARE*** If he has anyone else working with him on the jobsite they are NOT covered and therefore you are liable for any injuries and subject to a lawsuite. 4. Always have a contract. This will answer questionable charges later. Change Orders can add up. When it’s all said and done the bid that was higher may not have been in the long run.
